What a week…
It’s always ambitious to say this so early on at a new job, but I think I’m going to love it there. The people I work with are unbelievably kind, supportive, and helpful. They are more than understanding of my level of experience in the field and are willing to break things down into tiny steps – even when I don’t necessarily require it – to ensure I have a grasp on what needs to be done.
It also feels as though I have a lot of freedom within the work that I do. I choose the tickets I wish to resolve and I work at my own pace. Of course, there are guidelines to follow and a quota they’d prefer me to meet – one I believe I can meet easily once I am more comfortable with knowing where to look for certain things, and once their processes and policies become second nature – but I don’t feel like I have anyone looking over my shoulder or pressuring me in any kind of capacity. I just have my own cozy little cubicle, resources available to me, and support when I require it. I’m grateful for those things.
I’ve also been embraced and welcomed in such a humbling way! The kindness is infectious; we primarily use Teams to communicate with one another, and after I ask a question or request assistance, they will swing the conversation into something more casual. They will ask me questions about myself, or send GIFs or jokes, and will engage in healthy banter. They’ve given me a sense of belonging since day one, almost like I’ve been there for much longer, and it’s so nice.
One of my superiors scared the Hell out of me the other day, though!
He messaged me on Teams and asked me to come to his office, saying he needed to talk to me about something. 😳
When I got to his office, he told me to close the door without looking up from his computer. 😳
Turns out, he only wanted to tell me that I was going to see people work from home more frequently in the near future, and he didn’t want me to feel left out over it. He said that a part-time work-from-home privilege can be granted to me after my probation period is up! Boy, was that ever not the direction I was expecting the conversation to go in! Got all worked up for what turned out to be good news…
Anyway, I’m happy to be settling in, and I’m grateful for my new job. It’s going well!
Today, I passed 250 likes on my Facebook page for my blog. At 100 likes, I started a tradition of popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate each milestone of likes on that page. At 100 likes, it was the first time in my life that I opened a bottle of champagne!
…It didn’t go so well.
This time around, I was determined. I trained hard, maintained my focus, and fought to conquer the next bottle…
Congrats on 250 likes! Share on XI sure hope I didn’t anger my nemesis… I don’t know what I would do if a desire for revenge were to occur…
Anyway, no need to dwell on that, I bet.
I’m so excited about this little milestone! I can’t believe how my cozy little corner of the internet is growing, and I don’t know how to properly express how truly grateful I am. This website means the world to me, and I work so hard on it! I think about it all the time… Witnessing the growth of this place makes me happy beyond belief. I have made so many friends along the way, and I’ve been given opportunities, connections, and experiences I otherwise wouldn’t have had. Thank you so much for being a part of this. I hope you know how much your support and engagement means to me. I hope you know that when you read what I have written, you are doing the most amazing thing for me that you ever could.
Here’s to many more milestones in my future!
A lot of progress has been made with getting the puppies used to having a kitty friend around! Earlier this week, I realized that the dogs were mistaken about what I’ve been trying to train them for. They started believing that they were rewarded for getting really close to my cat, Thirteen and then returning to me. In actuality, I was trying to get them away from her…
Thirteen also really likes being at my side. When I would let her out, the puppies would often remain at my side – to be nearby in case I had to reward them for something – and so, I wanted to work on giving Thirteen space, and getting them comfortable with seeing Thirteen close to me. So – on Wednesday or so, I grabbed a handful of treats and had them sit and stay on the carpet in the living room while Thirteen wandered about.
The most adorable thing came from that… Ever since, I will catch Cali, puppy number one, sitting on that carpet and staring at me – waiting to be told how very good of a girl she is. That could almost make me cry!
On Friday after work, I opened my office door – Thirteen’s safe zone – and let her wander about. That day, both dogs laid on the carpet and watched her explore. That was the first time that has happened. So… I left my office door open for a while longer…
I left it open while Corey and I were in the kitchen.
Then, Corey went downstairs to game, and I went into my office. I decided to still leave the office door open. Thirteen would come and go, and I heard no commotion coming from outside my office at any point.
So… I left my office door open when I also went downstairs to watch a movie with Corey.
All animals behaved.
That was the first all-day attempt at an open door policy. I’m elated with how well it went! I’m hopeful that this means we are right around the corner of Thirteen being a freelance kitty in our household. Finally…
I would be so happy. I cannot wait for that day.
My grandma lives a couple of hours away, and today she drove down to my parent’s house to visit. I stopped by for a while, too!
It’s always so nice to see her. She is the kindest woman!
I sat with her and my mom for a little over an hour. I enjoyed a tea while we shared stories about our lives. It was a really nice visit. The dynamic between my grandma and my mom is fantastic, I’ve always enjoyed just sitting back and listening to them talk with one another. I especially love it when memories from mom’s growing up come up. Usually, their retellings end up in all three of us in an uncontrollable fit of laughter!
I’m very fortunate to have a grandma like her.
Anyway, that’s all for this week! If you’re still around, click the Love button just below so I can know you’re here. Until next week, friends!
