Make An Assumption
For today’s challenge, you will need a partner.
Find a friend, family member, or coworker with whom you have a trusting and healthy relationship. – Although, it’s up to you to choose whether you want to try this experiment with someone you already know well, or with someone you’re still getting to know… The experience either way may be vastly different!
Tell whoever you choose that you want to try and assume something about them
Here Are Your Goals:
- Be open and welcome to feedback, and encourage them to provide it. Embrace their reaction to their reaction and see what you can learn about them, and about yourself from it.
- Use what you know about them as guidelines to form your assumption, but see how far away from what you know you can push yourself while trying to still make an accurate assumption about them.
- Dare yourself to get as detailed and specific as you can with your assumption. Find adjectives to make your assumption distinct and well-defined.
For example, maybe you’ll know that their dad loves hockey, and maybe you’ll know that they enjoy being active, so maybe you’ll conclude that they have been thinking about joining a local ball hockey team.
If your first assumption is inaccurate or incorrect, ask permission to create another one. Take what you learned from your last assumption to form a new one. See how many tries it takes to make an accurate assumption about them that allows you to learn something about them that you never knew before!
Then, ask them to make an assumption about you.
Notice how you feel after you practice this exercise. Ask yourself what – if any – value it brings to you.
Pigs Fly Here.
I cannot wait to get to know someone a little better today... Maybe I'll learn something about myself, too! #pigsflyhere
While you’re here, why don’t you stay a while and take a look around? Perhaps you would like to read a deeper post about my life, or maybe you’d like to dive into a more complicated subject that will inspire you to ponder, or just maybe – you fancy a fictional read. Whatever your poison, I’m sure you’ll find something for you here, there’s lots to explore!
