Focus On Others
“Today, I want you to challenge yourself to see how little you can talk about yourself.
Make it your goal to learn something new about every person you interact with as you go about your day. Find opportunities to hand them the spotlight, ask them questions, or offer them prompts to build off of.
Listen intently and carefully. Respond meaningfully and with purpose. See how often you can catch yourself before replying with an experience of your own. With every interaction you participate in today, challenge yourself to see how long you can keep the conversation about the person you’re speaking with.
As you walk away from every interaction, decide how much you like from what you just learned about someone else. Determine whether it’s something you admire, respect, or endorse. Ask yourself if you’ve learned something about them that you would like to apply to yourself.
Today, spend as much time as you can getting to know the people around you. Ponder how much value this challenge brings to you as you explore it.

While you’re here, why don’t you stay a while and take a look around? Perhaps you would like to read a deeper post about my life, or maybe you’d like to dive into a more complicated subject that will inspire you to ponder, or just maybe – you fancy a fictional read. Whatever your poison, I’m sure you’ll find something for you here, there’s lots to explore!

I practice this, it is difficult sometimes, but a great way to learn. As the saying goes, you learn more by listening than speaking. A great read, and a great message that should definitely be practiced by all. Some more than others…..

I agree – it absolutely is difficult, but so valuable! Thank you very much!!

Love this! So simple yet so powerful! Giving the chance for others to be themselves helps build meaningful relations and can actually help us learn about ourself and a situation more than if we share. Thank you for sharing this and I accept the challenge, I want to do this more.
