Five Objects in your Surroundings
Here’s an easy one to end off the week…
Look around your space. Pick five objects in your surroundings – five that stand out to you, whether because they make you feel cozy, because they seem to stick out like a sore thumb, or because they captivate your intrigue. Five things only, take your time. Leave them where they are, and remain where you are too, just pick five things with your eyes.
Study each one. See if you can visualize what it might feel like to touch, or ask yourself what sound it would make if you tapped on it, or rustled it around. If you were able to, would you change anything about any one of them? If so, what aspects would you change?
Look at the color of each item, and see if you can think of anything else that you’ve seen that comes in that same color. See if you can imagine the reminded object in your mind.
See If you can memorize exactly where they’re located. Close your eyes, and with your eyelids closed, look to where you believe each object is placed. When you feel ready, open your eyes again and see how precise you were.
Think about why you chose each object. If you don’t know the answer right away, explore the thought for a little while. What made it stand out to you? What emotion do you feel when you look at it? Do you like or dislike it?
Later today, if you find yourself stressed or overwhelmed, take a minute to close your eyes and return your thoughts to those five objects. Revisit the thoughts you had on them through this exercise, see how much you can recall. When you open your eyes again, let me know if it impacted anything for you at that moment.
